Former WWE talent Nick Dinsmore (a/k/a Eugene) spoke to Mike Buda of SportstownChicago.com about his character, a possible return to television, WWE’s drug testing policy and more. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Possible return to television: “My legal team advises me that I can neither confirm nor deny that I am in talks with TNA and WWE at this time so take that for what it is. I can neither confirm nor deny the internet rumors that are running rampant that both TNA and WWE are chomping at the bit to get the best independent talent that you see today. The best free agent in wrestling. I can neither confirm nor deny that you’ll see me on TV in the next two months.”

Bruno Sammartino declining WWE’s invitation to enter the Hall of Fame: “I didn’t walk a mile in that guys shoes so I don’t know what he’s been through but I think it would be great for the fans, great for the Hall of Fame, and great for the WWE to really portray the legend, especially Bruno Sammartino and the great thing that he was and that he is.”

WWE’s drug testing policy: “I think they’re pretty much right on track with the Drug and Wellness Policy mostly with the equivalent to the other major sports of basketball, baseball, and football. I think years ago, as with all the sports the drugs and everything, people didn’t know that much about them and didn’t know how much they are bad for you and with the wellness policy the pure athlete, is just very good for the business I think.”

Whether WWE should allow Randy Orton to appear on the 1000th episode of Raw while serving suspension: “Would the commissioner of the NFL do that for any NFL guy? I don’t think so.”

Well, I disagree. Where I’d say yes the notion of the “pure athlete” has done nothing but good for Real Sports. I cannot say the same for Professional Wrestling. In fact, I’d actually go as far as to say the notion of the “pure athlete” has done nothing but cause damage to professional wrestling’s overall success

If I were Nick, I would never go back to WWE.

Nick Dinsmore is a guy who had it all when he was in developmental. He had 10 heavyweight title reigns, and 11 Tag Team Championship reigns. In 2004 he was named number 21 in the PWI 500. Nick had everything going for him, so what did Vince do? Brought the guy in as a (forgive the term) retard, and put him in comedy bits.

Vince and company completely trashed the guy in less than 3 years and had him out the door. Then afterwards, nobody wanted to give the guy a job because everyone looked at him and went “oh that’s Eugene!” Fans didn’t wanna see Eugene, so no promotion wanted to pick the guy up. He had it all, and Vince ruined this guys career with a shitty gimmick.
