WWE officials had been negotiating with Chris Jericho on a new contract in recent weeks, but talks fell through. WWE opted to cease talks with the wrestler/musician in recent days.

It is believed that the proposed deal fell through due to control over when he worked as well as his activities outside of WWE. Officials were seeking a deal where the company would be his top priority and they would have some control over his outside endeavors. Jericho, on the other hand, wanted complete control of all of his activities.

Jericho was open to returning as early as this month had WWE agreed to his terms. He was looking to work forty to fifty dates per year, including full-time for cycles and even assisting the developmental program. However, he would determine the periods when he worked and would be strictly unavailable during tours, which WWE was not in favor of.

    this is complete and utter bullshit,why cant Vince and Paul see this as an opportunity to let wrestlers use thier outside projects to possibly bring in new fans into becoming wrestling fans in general?this is a huge missed opportunity to help add WWE awareness in the mainstream and its a disgrace theyre letting this pass them by

    That way Ziggler, Barret, Del Rio can have a run and then NOTHING.

    Insane, a legend like Jericho who only says good stuff about the company and would promote the brand to thousands of fans worldwide as Fozzy increase their profile. Then again, I look back to WCW, Benoit, Eddie, Dean etc and think of Chris, and what a shot in the arm that was for wrestling in general. Now WWE, who are light on top names, do this to Jericho. Insane, I hope he goes to TNA to teach them a lesson – imagine him in developmental, and the crop of kids that would come through.

    This is dumb on wwe’s part, Jericho is possibly the best performer in the world, 40 to 50 dates plus developmental guidance, they are fucking up!

    makes sense if it’s that black and white. sure he’s a draw, but he picks the dates and is wholly unavailable during Fozzy tours? what company should agree to that? if they were that close i’m sure they can start negotiating again and he’ll be back eventually, maybe at the Royal Rumble

    I actually agree w/ WWE on this one, Jericho needs to make a choice whether he wants to be a rock star or be a WWE Superstar, it’s not fair to WWE or other superstars that he can pick & choose when he wants to work & no business would agree to that type of contract…..he’s not as big as a draw for WWE as he was 5-10 years ago, and I think he realizes that, which is why he focuses more on Fozzy/touring than he does WWE….as for the help w/ the developmental, it would be BETTER if someone like Jericho was there to help, but it’s not NEEDED…..I think both sides will come to terms soon & get Jericho back before Survivor Series….

    In my opinion, it’s pretty stupid on WWE’s part that they don’t want Chris Jericho to do what he wants in his own free will, and WWE would just take that away from him? Unreal. Chris is one of the best performers in the world in what he does, and it’s quite odd that they aren’t taking advantage of the situation. With numerous projects Chris Jericho has, WWE can use that to their full advantage to have more exposure, but they’re willing NOT to do that. Come on, they can’t treat Chris Jericho like that now.
