WWE’s booking committee are contemplating a scenario where CM Punk would drop the WWE Championship to John Cena at SummerSlam to set up a rematch between Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at Royal Rumble.

Johnson announced at RAW 1,000 that he would face whoever the WWE Champion is at the January pay-per-view event. Johnson would defeat Cena at the Rumble and then defend the title against Punk at WrestleMania XXIX. There is that scenario and the other is that CM Punk would defeat John Cena at SummerSlam to retain his title and then go on to face The Rock at the Royal Rumble. Johnson would win the title there and then go on to face John Cena in a rematch from last year’s WrestleMania main event. As of last word, WWE didn’t want to do a Cena/Rock rematch at WrestleMania 29 so the first scenario looks more likely. Either way, The Rock, John Cena and CM Punk are the three men WWE wants involved in the angle.

Of course, plans can and likely will change but this was at least talked about during backstage meetings at RAW on Monday.

    This is a bullshit story. Mark my word, WWE have already booked Punk vs Rock for RR. Also this is evident by RAW 1000. WWE know there is more draw w/ Rock vs Punk than another “once in a lifetime” match which wasnt that good in the first place.

    the 2nd scenario sounds more realistic, i think they will use Rock/Cena 2 to hype up WM 29 with Cena winning the title & tying up the Rock/Cena series 1-1, leading to a 3rd rubber match between the 2 to hype up another PPV after WrestleMania……either way, Royal Rumble will be getting some big hype whether Rock/Punk or Rock/Cena 2 …..

    But if Cena & The Rock face each other at RR and The Rock go over….that means that he will go Punk at Mania as well……i can’t see WWE telling the The Rock to put Punk over at Mania 29.

    Interesting but i see a bit of a hiccup with the first situation. If Punk drops title now to Cena then Cena to Rock and since Rock is probably leaving again, Rock drops title to Punk, they will have to keep the title on Punk for a while to make the WM match mean something. This will mean that basically since MITB last year, Punk will have the title over a year out of almost 2 years and then possibly get another lengthy reign. (Yes I know he dropped the title last year to ADR, but since winning it at SS he has had a firm grip on it.)

    Is it POSSIBLE that there MIGHT be… like… a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship, if it were to happen, at WrestleMania 29, between CM Punk, John Cena, and The Rock? I’m not sure if that match itself would be appealing to people, but it might be interesting to see instead of a singles match between CM Punk and The Rock or a rematch of WrestleMania 28 for 29 between John Cena and The Rock II there. Just my humble opinion.
